TORONTO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Art of Wise Giving™

Many Torontonians have a vision for a strong and vital city. To achieve this goal they often choose to partner with the Toronto Community Foundation.
Established in 1981, the Toronto Community Foundation is home to hundreds of charitable endowment funds, providing the equivalent of a family foundation. "The formula is simple," says Chairman Martin Connell. "After naming a Fund, the original gift is pooled and invested with others, with a portion of the earned income granted annually to charities. The capital is never spent, giving support to the community in perpetuity."
Recently recognized as the 2010 Outstanding Foundation, by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Toronto Community Foundation is no longer one of Toronto's best-kept secrets. "It has everything to do with our business model," explains President & CEO Rahul Bhardwaj. "We provide our Fundholders all the benefits of a private foundation, at a fraction of the cost, and we help them reach their own charitable goals while strengthening the broader community at the same time."
In addition to providing back-office administrative, investment and governance support, the Toronto Community Foundation believes in sharing their in-depth community knowledge. Their annual Toronto’s Vital Signs® Report identifies Toronto's greatest needs and their innovative Community Knowledge Centre provides insight into charitable organizations working on impactful solutions. Last year, the Community Foundation’s team helped their family of Fundholders allocate over $8 million to hundreds of charities.
Personal charitable legacies allow us to leave a lasting impact on our community — with the Toronto Community Foundation, Torontonians are able to achieve just that.
