Advancements in healthcare provide extraordinary value to the community, explains President, CEO and Trustee Alexandra Quarles, CFRE. To achieve that goal, the mission of the not-for-profit Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation is to improve the delivery of healthcare through the acquisition and utilization of philanthropic funds. Since 1976, the Foundation’s efforts have successfully elevated Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, as well as other health-related organizations, to an even higher level of excellence. Donor cultivation and stewardship, a gala every three years, annual gifts, and endowments through estate planning have all enabled Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation to provide more than $35 million to support patient care. As a result, Sarasota’s citizens and visitors benefit from such state-of-the-art technology as surgical microscopes for spine surgery and neurosurgery; global positioning equipment to guide knee and hip replacements; da Vinci robotic surgery for minimally invasive prostate, gynecologic and cardiac surgery; and digital mammography for advanced diagnosis in breast cancer. Integrally involved in the community, the Foundation’s board members strive to develop relationships with individuals who are specifically interested in giving back to the healthcare system. Some of their efforts include a renovated Emergency Care Center and ongoing upgrades to the latest in technology. Funding has also enabled nurses from many disciplines to attend education-enhancing conferences, and to receive degrees through ongoing specialty education. “We aim to be the leader in strategically focused fundraising efforts, and our goal is to seek funding for five major areas: patient care, research, education, technology and facilities,” states Board Chair Bill Stanford. “Along the way, we are touching lives and proudly making a difference in our community.” |
