Founded in 1924, The Out-of-Door Academy is one of the oldest independent schools in Florida. Located on Siesta Key (pre-kindergarten through grade six) and in Lakewood Ranch (grades seven through 12), the mission of The Out-of-Door Academy is to provide an environment in which students strive to achieve their highest academic goals and to build character through a balanced program of academics, athletics, and the arts. In 2006, The Out-of-Door Academy earned membership into the prestigious Cum Laude Society which recognizes the top 1% of all high schools in the United States. A comprehensive PK-12 curriculum prepares graduates to attend highly selective colleges and universities across the country. Seventy-six percent of the Class of 2006 received unsolicited scholarships with an average merit award in excess of $100,000 per student. Small class sizes foster life-long relationships between students and faculty, who are experts in their field and dedicated to the personal growth of each student in the classroom, on the athletic field, in the studio, and in the community at large. Beyond the classroom, the Academy offers a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities including 18 inter-scholastic athletic teams, an award winning arts program that boasts drama, orchestra and graphic design, as well as dozens of clubs and student led organizations. “The more our young people are involved in the life of the school, the better,” says Head of School David Mahler. “This school serves each of our students via a customized and individualized approach to the educational process. We always make decisions about our program based on what is in the best interest of the kids,” says David. “At Out-of-Door Academy, our goal is to provide the best possible education for each student in our care. We want our graduates to be exceptionally well prepared to confront the challenges of college, and life, with confidence and with expertise.” |
