Bruce Crissy, Jr. has made it his business to stay current with the shifting trends in antiques, largely by cultivating relationships with collectors from the four corners of the globe.

“If you stay involved and keep your finger on the pulse of the antique world, you know what is saleable,” Bruce says. “We are very demanding and very particular, scrutinizing each piece and guaranteeing its authenticity. That’s what our customers expect from us.”

Crissy Galleries has an eclectic selection of antiques and fine collector pieces from the past three centuries. But for the past year, items from the mid-20th Century, being 50 to 60 years old, have been very popular and have held a lot of interest to the younger group of collectors.

“Locally we are seeing a huge interest in colorful Florida art by artists who were trained in the early 1900s,” Bruce explains. “As more and more people move to our area, making Southwest Florida their home, we’re finding that they’re interested in collecting art that reflects their new surroundings.”

With more than 80 years of combined experience, knowledge and expertise, Bruce and his mother Carol have earned a stellar and trusted reputation on the international scene. When Bruce moved their business from Rochester to Sarasota in 1978, Carol relocated as well, and continues to hold a major presence at Crissy Galleries.

“We’re a general line dealer at a time when everyone has become a specialist. Because it takes so long to learn each area, many dealers are knowledgeable in only one field,” Bruce says. “It takes many years of exposure to determine what is good, better and best.”
