Facing the challenge of escalating real estate prices and waning availability of public access marinas, Steeven Knight embarked upon a plan to provide and secure boat slips, selling them as real estate. Beginning with Sanibel Harbour, Yacht Clubs of the Americas (YCOA) is now a statewide network of premier yacht clubs, complete with amenity-filled club houses and Five-Star Concierge service. YCOA slips are now available in Tampa, Naples, Key West, Stuart, St. Augustine and New Smyrna, with plans underway for Charleston and other strategic harbors.

“We created a business model centered on the objective to preserve marinas,” explains Steeven. “Access to our waterfronts is diminishing and individual ownership of wet and dry slips guarantees that this will be a marina forever.”

The concept has taken hold with Sanibel, which is 80 percent sold, both to boaters and non-boaters who rent out the slips.

With one call to the dockmaster and within an hour’s notice, the boat is fueled, provisioned and at the dock ready to go. The end of the voyage is just as carefree – the boat will be thoroughly cleaned and stored while its owners enjoy the resort-style pool or lounge in the elegant Clubhouse. Monthly membership dues ensure this ultimate Five-Star Concierge service, which includes 24-hour security, valet parking and wholesale pricing on both cuisine and fuel at YCOA Clubs.

For those who like to travel to distant ports? Reciprocal privileges are granted at all Yacht Clubs of the Americas locations.

“My goal is to ensure access to the waterfront,” concludes Steeven. “I want boaters to rest assured that it’s possible to have a permanent home for their boat, complete with the most luxurious services and amenities available in the boating industry today.”
